BIG ambitions for a small space
At Harris Primary East Dulwich the area in which the 420 children have to play in and complete their rigorous PE schedule, is small. While we cannot solve for the footprint of the playground, we fully believe we can make it a fun, safer, more fit for purpose space.
Please help us improve our playground!

Challenges
-
Harsh and unforgiving asphalt surface
-
High risk of injury
-
Limited space for zoned play
-
Ineffective sport spaces
-
Poorly defined quiet spaces
-
Lack of shade and rain protection
-
Heat refraction raises playground temperature
-
Sound pollution is amplified on asphalt
-
Minimal greenery and limited opportunities for growth
Solutions
-
Resurface the playground. Bring in artificial turf to provide a cushioned ground, creating a softer landing surface. Allowing for heat to be absorbed, rather than refracted, keeping temperatures cooler and sound dampened.
-
Define improved and effective sports areas, including a more efficient football & netball pitch, four square court and running track.
-
Reimagine quiet spaces. Incorporating reading and quiet nooks with softer surfaces and shade cover
-
Build shade structures that work with the flow of the playground, add colour and increase shelter from both sun and rain, we are in Britain after all!
-
Raised beds for planting and the introduction of trees for shade and pollution minimisation.
-
Diversify the playground to inspire physical and social development.
-
COLOUR - and last, but not least, we plan to infuse the playground with a much needed burst of colour. So when those gates are thrown open, the children are greeted with a warm, fun and exciting playground!
Donate
This is FoHPED's most ambitious fundraiser, ever.
Reconfiguring and resurfacing the playground comes with a substantial cost. We have applied for grants and outside funding to assist, but we still need your help. In order to make the most effective use of the space, we need to think BIG. So we are. Our goal is to raise £100,000.
The funds donated from our Harris to Paris cycling event kickstarted Project Playground's fundraising. Together, we raised over £11,000! And we've only just begun.
Recently we were just awarded a HUGE grant to the tune of £40,000 from Southwark Council's Cleaner Greener Safer initiative. We can not begin to say how thankful we are and how much of a difference this will make to our effort. THANK YOU!
The current Project Playground pot stands at £54,593. And with £2.8K in pending Gift Aid claims, it stands to climb even higher.
FoHPED will continue to work hard to support the school and honour our commitments to enduring programs, as well as ambitiously strive to raise the funds to complete Project Playground in the best way possible. As the philosopher Marshall Mathers once said, "you've only got one shot". Well, Mr. Mathers, we plan to take it.
But we can't do it alone! We need your help. Invite your friends and family to make this dream playground a reality. As a charity, all donations made are eligible for Gift Aid which greatly increases the impact your donation has.
Does your company do corporate gift matching? Due to our new found status, any donation you make can potentially be matched by your employer!
Let's join together! Come be a critical part of vastly improving the daily lives of 420 of London's finest residents, the children of Harris Primary East Dulwich.

Playground of Dreams
We asked the children to create their dream playground. And did they ever! We may not be able to build them the massive swimming pool, tennis stadium or chocolate fountain some requested, but we can certainly try to make a few of their dreams a reality. Take a look at some of their incredible creations.
